Submitted by admin on September 20, 2009 – 6:46 amOne Comment

Im trying to update my AVG anti-virus but when I go to download the new updates (which would then install and so forth) it says Invalid update control CTF file
what does that mean? and how can i fix this problem?

This is a common problem with AVG in recent times.
    From AVG forum:
You need to rename/remove the CTF temp files in C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataAvg8updatedownload…. Dont delete all the .bin files in there unless you want to re-run all updates since your original installation (reinstallation seems to cause a problem in IEs Link Scanner which causes IE to Crash). Only rename/remove the avginfo files that end with .ctf.
There were two .CTF files (avginfoavi.ctf and avginfowin.ctf) in that folder, and deleting them fixed the problem indeed.
If you have Vista see in link…and further info
on above can also be found.
