When Playing Vlc Media Player, The Frame Hiccups. Whats The Problem?

Submitted by admin on October 31, 2009 – 7:45 am3 Comments

so i start playing a new movie or anime and it takes a few seconds for the video to catch up to the audio and then its fine for a bit. occasionally the frame will hiccup but the audio will keep going strong. whats wrong? do i need to get a new graphics card, more ram, or a new HD screen?

    Found this info for you.http://www.instructables.com/id/Fix-audi…
I had this issue as well, so I switched to MPlayer, it’s more for technical people, and is not for casual users.

It may be your processor/video card combo.
For anime, try using http://www.cccp-project.net/. If that doesn’t solve the problem, it may be that your system is too weak. If you’re playing h.264 files (often found in .mkv containers), you should try out CoreAVC: http://www.coreavc.com/index.php?option=…
CoreAVC is your best bet if you have a laptop. It will also help with sites like Hulu, which uses h.264 in it’s 480p flash streams.
If you have a desktop with a dedicated video card slot, you’re in luck. Newer nVidia and ATI Radeon cards will offload the video decoding to the video card (which works even better than CoreAVC, and is mutually exclusive with it). Installing the card and the latest drivers will likely fix the problem.
If that doesn’t fix the problem, it’s an issue with the OS itself, I suppose. I’d rebuild the computer at that point.
If you’re running low on disk space, the video files may be saved in a fragmented form on your hard drive. Defragging is a temporary fix, but getting a new HDD is a better option (640G is a good size).

If what Tymothy said didn’t work, try getting the latest version of VLC. I have had bugs with it before and usually within a release or so it’s fixed.
